The Turf Cutter Spritz

A few days ago, I mixed these cocktails after me and my team got out in 90-degree weather to knock doors in Warren, Michigan as we work to flip Michigan’s 10th District blue. After knocking, my team came over for game night, we played Ticket to Ride and a few rounds of BS. I love making cocktails, and I wanted to make something a little different. It turned out great, so I wanted to share it with you!

This is a twist on a white negroni spritz.

It’s equal parts Suze and Lillet, and then two parts Prosecco and two parts Fresca. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

It was bright yellow, a little bittersweet, and had a perfect juicy crispness that helps you relax after a hot summer’s day.

Our Field Director loved it the most, so I’m naming the drink in his honor: The Turf Cutter Spritz.

Here’s hoping one day, after many years of public service—and yes, after actually retiring from Congress—I get to make a few of these behind the bar for old friends while telling stories about the people who believed in us, the neighborhoods we walked, the doors we knocked, and the campaign that reminded us that democracy is still built one conversation at a time.
